Here are a few places in town where we love to get our sweat on. This list is definitely geared toward the ways that we like to move for exercise and recreation, and is absolutely not an all inclusive survey of Tucson’s offerings. Tucson is very well known for its golf (and the Reid park muni and driving range is close by), and there are a ton of pilates and F45 studios around town.
Reffkin Tennis Center is awesome and very close to casalola! There’s a gazillion courts, expanded hours, and it’s super affordable ($2 per hour for daytime! $10 per hour for night play, because someone’s gotta pay for the lights). They have weekly clinics, drop in match play, and a zippy newsletter.
Tumamoc Hill is what I call the municipal exercise hill and a treasure. You’ll find a true cross-section of Tucsonans huffing up this steep, but gorgeous and rewarding path. You will absolutely get sweaty any time of the year, but it’s an entirely paved path, and there is are a ton of saguaros and other desert plants for admiring along the way. In fact, the area is owned by the University of Arizona, and they have a whole companion app and tour! Tumamoc is a great option if you want to get up close to some desert flora and fauna (I saw 2 roadrunners on my last trip up!) without going on a longer hike or venturing out to one of the botanical or national parks.
Tucson Strength is our favorite place to pump iron. Tons of squat racks, deadlift platforms, cable machines, turf for sled work, so many kettlebells, bands, boxes, etc. If you’re into power lifting, olympic lifting, self directed CrossFit, or any other kind of strength based workouts, this is the place. They have affordable day passes and a friendly team who is very willing to answer any questions or just let you do your thing.
Yoga Oasis is my favorite yoga studio in town. They offer vinyasa flow type classes in a serene wood-floored studio. Their classes are mostly not heated, which is my personal preference, but if you like hot power flows, try out Session Yoga, which is close by to casalola.
Revolve is a spin studio with dance club vibes. They offer beat-based classes that will leave you drenched in sweat and riding high on positivity and a sense of accomplishment. They have loaner shoes for visitors! Pro-tip: take advantage of the ear plugs they offer at the front desk because the music is LOUD.
Let’s Sweat is a strength and spin studio in a really cool building in a really cool neighborhood, and most of their classes are a combo of about of spin and then some sculpt or stretch floor work. We really love the sculpt classes in particular, they know how to get a good burn going!
Have fun!
